My name is Shaina Gordon and I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) based in Georgia and North Carolina. I am here to guide you through life’s most complex and difficult matters.
I am originally from Miami, Florida but relocated to Ft. Lauderdale after Hurricane Andrew destroyed my family’s home. I received my Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Emory University in 2009 and my Master of Social Work from Boston University in 2011. At Boston University, I also received a certificate in behavioral medicine which provided me with comprehensive knowledge of psychotropic medication.
I am specifically trained in Dialectical Behavioral therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral therapy (CBT) as well as mindfulness and meditation practices. I have found these therapies very effective in treating depression, anxiety, emotion dysregulation and interpersonal issues.
My therapeutic philosophy is based on the belief that we all have an optimal self; a self that is the best version of who we are and who we can be. It is my mission to help people uncover or re-discover their best selves. Traumatic events in the past or present can affect us daily by impacting how we think, feel, and operate in the world. Recovery from these adverse events, by using our personal strengths, can help us live more fulfilling and healthy lives.
My clinical experience working in community, acute, and residential settings with children, teenagers, and adults has afforded me the opportunity to work with a diverse population with a multitude of issues such as depression, anxiety, trauma, psychosis, eating disorders, self-harming, relationship problems, and grief. I have experience in individual, group, and family therapy. I am especially passionate about working with women and LGBTQ+ individuals. My therapy approach promotes personal strengths, life satisfaction, self-compassion, self-worth, gratitude, and optimism. I believe in providing a safe, respectful, and nonjudgmental space for all the individuals I serve. I am currently enrolled in a DBT intensive training to further my skills and to provide therapy to those experiencing controlling their emotions and feeling like they are unable to have healthy relationships.
At Online Therapy of Atlanta, we implement effective psychotherapy methods to instill self-understanding among clients and encourage them to adopt new attitudes and feelings towards life situations. It is essential to keep in mind that therapy is not a magic pill or a quick fix; therapy is a healing process that necessitates participation and investment from the client and caregiver alike. But in the end, making small changes in self-defeating behavior and in feelings of sadness, fear, and pain can bring life-altering results – and with our services, we will help you achieve just that. Our services are personalized to suit everyone’s needs, and we go the extra mile to provide you with all the tools you need to recover.
I loved working with Shaina and she taught me how to see and react to things differently. I have used her for two sessions, two years in a row and plan to come back as needed. I feel I got over the most difficult roadblocks I was facing and have the tools now when I encounter new ones. Shaina is a good listener and lets you see both sides while making your own decisions. She is very supportive and encouraging.
